A frequent question from customers : What’s difference between mgo board and fiber cement board?
I couldn’t found any correct answer on intertet, here my thinking for share.
Mgo board belongs to cement bonded wood particle board(CBPB) existed over hundred years, MGO BOARD use innovative binder – magnesium oxide cement, boned with wood particle and reinforced by mesh fiber on both side, rolling into a flat sheet. The main advantage of MGO is light weight, exllect fireproof, high bending and impact strength, superior screw holding strength. The main disadvantage is deformation(bulging) in heat and wet environment, because of nonuniform wood particle mix inside.
Fiber cement board is traditional building board, produce by portland cement and paper pulp mix and spread regular, compress into a flat sheet. The main advantage of fiber cement board is waterproof and dimension stable. The main disadvantage is heavy and can’t use for shear wall because of low bending and impact strength, price expensive. Some of low and medium density fiber cement board has risk of delamination after recycle frost and thaw.
Many information on internet mislead builder use and install MGO board in wrong place and wrong way cause problems. In order to protect owner, BBA and LABC, warned MGO is limit for indoor use and outside install behind air barrier, until they find out correct regulation and installation method for exterior wall.
ROCKMAX’s durability tested to fiber cement board standard, our unique formulation is stable and durable.Buyer can understand ROCKMAX mgo board as CBPB Plus, can replace of fire rated OSB for wall and sub floor, replace of gypsum board for interior fire rated wall and ceiling, replace of fiber cement board for exterior backing use.
